Rumors are swirling about Liridon Krasniqi's potential move to Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT), fueled by his pre-season training with the club and comments from owner HRH Tunku Mahkota Ismail. Krasniqi, who has played in the Malaysian Super League for several seasons, is reportedly close to qualifying for a Malaysian passport, making him a desirable local player. This is particularly relevant given interest from the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) and national team coach Tan Cheng Hoe.
Currently, JDT's import player quota is full. However, once Krasniqi gains local status, the club's interest is understandable. The question remains: where would he fit into JDT's already formidable midfield?
JDT typically employs a 4-3-3 formation. Hariss Harun anchors the midfield, providing defensive stability. Afiq Fazail acts as the team's engine, dictating play and distributing the ball. Leandro Velazquez occupies the advanced midfield role, offering creative flair.
Krasniqi's skillset, which includes comfortable possession, passing, and forward drives, doesn't align with Hariss's defensive role. He would be better suited to either Afiq's or Velazquez's positions.
However, competition for these spots is fierce. Ignacio (Natxo) Insa and Syamer Kutty Abba are contenders for the "Afiq role," while Syafiq Ahmad and Nazmi Faiz Mansor challenge for the "Velazquez role." While Krasniqi wouldn't necessarily be at the bottom of the pecking order, he would face significant competition.
This competition could be beneficial, potentially pushing Krasniqi to elevate his game. With JDT's participation in multiple competitions in the 2020 season, bolstering their squad with a player like Krasniqi makes strategic sense. His potential acquisition seems to be a move that could benefit both the player and the club.
